The Highlands region is vast and provides large variation in its flavour profile. The Highlands start just north of Glasgow and Edinburgh and runs the entirety of the country North with the exception of the Speyside region on the East of the country between Inverness and Aberdeen. The Highlands also includes the Islands of Scotland but these are emerging as a new region of Scotch Whisky that recognises the distinct flavours created by each Island.
The Highland whisky can vary dramatically based on the geography but all would be considered to be full bodied and powerful. In the north, Glenmorangie are world renowned for strength and depth of flavour, Dalwhinnie has amazing consistency with wide varieties of flavours and the Dalmore is rich and fruity. Other key brands from the Highlands are Oban, Old Pulteney & Royal Lochnagar.
