Campbeltown region surrounds the town of Campbeltown which sits on the Kintyre peninsular. Campbeltown is now only home to 3 distilleries (Springbank, Glengyle and Glen Scotia) but back in the early 1800’s this tiny location was the very heart of Scotch Whisky production with around 32 separate distilleries.
Its location, protected from the extreme elements of the Atlantic, the moist climate under the rolling mist of the Kintyre means that it is gentler than its Islay counterparts but contains flavours of seasealt along with gentler ageing conditions and no extreme winters. The typical taste is flavoursome, lighter peated smoke, seasalt and all with less oak tannins.
