The lowlands area is defined as the Scotland / England border in the South and runs the breadth and length until it reaches the county split between the rivers Clyde and Tay. The area is significant in mass but there are very few distilleries within the Lowlands. There are 2 larger known distilleries in the Lowlands, Auchentoshan and Glenkinchie. More recently the renaissance of Whisky production is reopening former moth balled sites and the Bladnoch is now back in production.
Lowlands are a great introduction into Single Malt Scotch. In nature they are gentler in taste which allows a greater variety of flavour profiles to come through. Given their light taste they are more delicate but spice, fruit, sweetness will all be found within its gentle palate
